As well as showcasing our latest case study with Hydrasun, you can watch our voice technology video and also read about the key developments which have been made in this area over the last two decades, thanks to a recent article which we had published in Manufacturing & Logistics IT magazine.
Additionally, we also look at how service contracts for data capture hardware can dramatically reduce downtime concerns.
I hope you enjoy the read!
BEC Secures First US Site with Horseware
Following on from the highly successful implementation of our eSmart® Voice WMS solution at Horseware’s Irish manufacturing and warehousing facility, we have secured our first US-based contract for a voice-enabled Warehouse Management System. This new contract will take place at Horseware’s North American base in Kinston, North Carolina.
Headquartered in Dundalk, Ireland, Horseware is one of the world’s best known manufacturers of riding wear, leisure wear, horse rugs, equestrian products & accessories.
Due to rapid business growth, the company discovered that the paper-based method it had been using to record the movement of goods around the warehouse was insufficient at coping with the new levels of demand.
Tom MacGuinness, Chief Executive at Horseware, commented “As a result of the eSmart® Voice WMS solution with Honeywell’s Vocollect Voice™ software which BEC implemented at our facility in the Republic of Ireland and the positive impact it has had on the business as a whole, we have decided to roll it out to our North American facility. The new system will be used in our picking, put-away, stock movement, dispatch and replenishment operations.”
Hydrasun’s Voice Efficiently Refines Picking and Put-Away Processes
Established in 1976, Hydrasun is a leading specialist provider of integrated fluid transfer, power and control solutions to the energy, petrochemical, defence, marine and utilities industries worldwide.
With a solid history of providing excellent levels of service to its customers wherever they are located, Hydrasun has an enviable track record ensuring the availability and consistency of its product and service offerings.
With over 12,500 types of small parts being moved through its warehouse and distribution centre on a daily basis, Hydrasun felt that its product picking and put-away processes needed to be improved upon.
The company selected BEC to implement a new eSmart® Voice software solution, which has enabled Hydrasun to refine operations, increase order accuracy and stock control whilst significantly reducing errors – despite the high throughput rate.
Finding its Voice
Since the initial introduction of voice-directed picking technology around two decades ago, there have been many improvements. Some being subtle enhancements to existing features, whilst others have provided a more ‘blue skies’ approach.
Traditionally, voice-directed technology was used for picking and replenishment tasks within the warehouse or distribution centre. Now, as its use extends to put-away, stock moves and stock accounting, voice-directed solutions are becoming increasingly popular and widely deployed in servicing and testing, manufacturing, and the package distribution industries.
Philip Jarrett, Director of Sales & Marketing at BEC (Systems Integration) Ltd, considers some of the key developments that have helped voice-directed technology come a long way over the past two decades.
Service Contracts – Defence Against the Unexpected
A data capture solution represents a significant investment for your business. Used on a daily basis, it provides real-time visibility of transactions and improves productivity. However, as each year passes, devices are 15% more likely to encounter issues, resulting in downtime and unexpected repairs.
Whilst warranty may cover manufacturing defects within the first year of usage, what would you do when devices fail through normal wear and use, or accidental damage?
A service contract from BEC can help you extend the life of your devices, ensuring that they are maintained to their original manufacturing standards. With guaranteed turnaround times, expert repairs and technical support, you can avoid high costs involved with multiple repairs, save money and increase device uptime.
