BEC (Systems Integration) Ltd, a leading UK-based supplier of data capture solutions for supply chain logistics and manufacturing, has recently secured one of its largest hardware deals in its company history, thanks to a recent contract win with long-term business partner Malcolm Logistics, one of the UK’s leading providers of logistics services.
A division of The Malcolm Group, Malcolm Logistics provides fully integrated road, rail, warehousing and bonded warehousing services throughout the UK and has a long-established focus on operational and service quality which has earned a strong reputation within the industry.
With strategically placed distribution centres providing 24-hour vehicle scheduling, Malcolm Logistics’ intermodal service offers the end-to-end distribution of products through road and rail integration. Its warehousing facilities encompass 5 million square feet of warehousing space spread over 10 locations, 3 of which are rail-side, while the business also manages considerable warehousing activities at a number of customers’ locations.
Tony Hampson, Managing Director at BEC, comments “We are delighted to have secured such a significant contract from one of our most valued customers. We worked closely with Malcolms in order to fully understand their requirements and guide them through the product selection process. Their new system utilises Zebra XT15 rugged mobile computers and VH10 truck mount terminals with Honeywell SR61 barcode scanners. The introduction of end-to-end barcode scanning gives Malcolms real-time track and trace and up-to-date stock availability, resulting in greater control over its customers’ stock. ”
With a proven and trusted track record in supplying and implementing data capture technology within a range of warehousing and distribution centre applications, BEC is a specialist provider of future-proofed and innovative Automated Data Capture solutions, designed to integrate seamlessly into any host ERP system to fulfil business and commercial requirements.
Allan Bowes, Group IT Manager at Malcolms, concludes “The integration of the terminals and barcode scanners into our warehouse management system went smoothly and we were able to fast-track this element of the implementation as a result. BEC took the time to fully understand our requirements and the team were extremely knowledgeable from a technical perspective. The project was delivered within aggressive timescales which was important to us as lead time was critical to the success of the project. As a business, we very much look forward to providing an even better customer experience as a result.”
